Bio / Abstract

The SPE University of Nicosia Student Chapter had the unique opportunity to tour the VTTI Vasilikos Terminal, the first and largest energy storage and distribution terminal in the Eastern Mediterranean. Guided by VTTI professionals, students learned about the terminal’s critical role in the global energy supply chain, its complex logistical operations, and stringent safety protocols.

During the visit, participants toured storage tanks, loading terminals, pipelines, and the control room, gaining hands-on experience in pipeline maintenance, operational monitoring, and the use of safety equipment such as gas and flame detectors. They also observed industry “pigs” in operation and were provided with samples for educational purposes at the university, connecting classroom theory to practical applications.

The field trip offered an invaluable opportunity to engage directly with industry experts, understand the operational challenges of large-scale energy infrastructure, and explore potential career pathways in terminal management and energy logistics.
