Bio/Abstract
The SPE Student Chapter organized an educational field trip to the Troodos region, allowing students to explore one of the world’s most complete and well-preserved ophiolite sequences and gain practical insight into the geological processes that shaped Cyprus. The visit included the Troodos Visitors Center, where students learned about the island’s geological evolution, copper and asbestos mining history, and early industrial uses.
Key geosites visited included the Amiantos Fault, sheeted dyke complexes, upper and lower pillow lavas, and the historic Skouriotissa mine. This hands-on experience helped students connect classroom theory with real-world geological formations, enhancing their understanding of tectonics, volcanism, and the geological foundation critical for petroleum engineering.
